On Immodesty...

It is the Season of Sacraments in Catholic parishes across the country. Easter Vigil, First Holy Communion Masses, and Confirmation Masses fill the calendars of Catholic Churches. This is a wonderful time of the year, and if you work in catechetical ministries, it's also crazy and busy beyond belief. Amidst the beauty of people coming into closer relationships with Christ through the sacraments, there are many things which are very frustrating. One of these is the immodesty of some people attending these sacred celebrations. While we can use Confirmation robes/gowns to help the situation with our Confirmation candidates, it does nothing for the sponsors or family members attending this Mass. I know that I am not alone in my frustration with people showing up half naked to Mass, and I find that the article which I have linked to below by Msgr Charles Pope addresses the topic of immodesty very well.

I completely share your frustration on this. I was surprised (and perhaps shouldn't have been) at how a couple of the high school girls/sponsors were dressed at both the Confirmation mass and at Easter. It's hard to believe some leave the house looking the way they do. Shocking!

I also found it fascinating how different the two women were dressed that were interviewed by Sean Hannity. You could tell their stance based on just the tops they were wearing... Let your daughter wear whatever they want - that is what is wrong here!!
