After months of waiting, the Church has named a new head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Muller of Germany. A German succeeding an American in the office of upholding doctrinal orthodoxy. When American Cardinal Levada was named to this position previously, it was thought that an American was chosen because he best knew how the American Church was going astray and could give insight, or perhaps oversight. One has to think that this trend is continuing with a German being named, as the German Church has been struggling in ways of its own. Time will tell. In ant case, enjoy retirement Cardinal Levada. Here's to hoping he will hit the Catholic conference speaker circuit.
